Home water: Kilifi

The creek is not a backdrop. It is the reason the houses face the way they do.

Kilifi is Aurelian's home water. The creek opens to the Indian Ocean between limestone and mangrove, and the houses we represent sit where those two waters meet.\n\nTravelers often arrive from Nairobi or the Mara expecting a beach in the postcard sense. Kilifi is slower than that. Morning is paddle or still pool. Afternoon is shade. Evening is the creek turning the colour of tea. A dhow at dusk is not an activity so much as the correct pace of the place.\n\nWe keep the collection small on purpose. Representation, not a listing. If a house cannot be hosted to the standard of a private residence, it does not enter the record.
